architecture was erected circa 1838 as a symbol of Petersburg’s position as the second largest city
in Virginia and its tremendous financial success in the industrial world. Today it houses the city’s
classical Siege Museum dedicated to the civilian aspects of the Siege of Petersburg-June 1864

Tuesday June 5, 2012

6:30   AM     You will have a voucher for a  full hot breakfast at the hotel included in the tour.
9:30   AM     We will start the day at the Blandford Chruch. This was built circa 1735 for the Anglican
Colonists of Bristol Parish, this lovely but unassuming parish church sits quietly within the
old brick wall. Thomas Jefferson’s father Peter was among the Burgesses who founded Bristol
Parish in 1644. It is rich in our local and national history. Today, thanks to a group of dedicated
ladies, who in 1901 faced the dawning of a new century haunted by loss, Blandford Church is a
Confederate Memorial Chapel. Within the chapel are 15 Louis Comfort Tiffany windows
honoring Confederate soldiers. This is one of only six churches in the entire nation in which
every window is the work of the world renowned Louis Comfort Tiffany.

Blandford Cemetery is an extraordinary site where you can feel, hear and see the story of the
evolution of this city, its culture and people. The earliest legible headstones and monuments
reveal the changes in attitude to death and mourning in the 18th and 19th centuries. Within its
three hundred acres are buried industrial giants, a British General three Confederate Generals
and 30,000 of their men, a governor or two, past presidents of Virginia State University, merchants,
bankers, heroes and the everyday citizens who make up the very fabric of this city’s history.
12:00   PM     Now we will head back to Old Towne for another opportunity to browse the shops and have lunch
on your own.  Perhaps you will revisit yesterday’s favorites or discover new ones.
2:00   PM     We will meet at the Farmers market for the drive to the Petersburg Battlefield. During the Civil
War more than 2,000 military events were recorded in Virginia, more than any other state. Here
at the Petersburg Battlefield, the National Park Service Rangers will help you understand the
magnitude of the local military events. Our driving tour will include stops at the Visitor Center &
the site of the Battle of the Crater.

Farm Tractor Museum. Incorporated here are fully restored antique farm tractors, ongoing
restoration projects and other farm related equipment. Keystone offers visitors more than the farm
with a time warp of antique road trucks, classic cars, vintage gas pumps, oil cans, automotive
signage, clocks, advertising posters of yesteryear and so much more!
